Corporate well-being: Portugal at the tail end of Europe

Portuguese companies are failing to support employee well-being, reveals Wellbeing Compass 2025, a study conducted by Urban Sports Club that compares perceptions of well-being among employees in five European countries: Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

A new European study by Urban Sports Club reveals major gaps in the well-being strategies of Portuguese companies – with a direct impact on employee motivation, retention, and mental health.

What do Portuguese collaborators say?

  • 47% say they do not have access to mental well-being initiatives
  • 51% have no support for spiritual well-being
  • 37% do not benefit from professional development initiatives
  • 49% say financial security (such as fair pay or job security) would have the biggest impact on their well-being

Furthermore, the Portuguese expect the most from their companies : 53% believe that companies should play a greater role in promoting well-being – almost double the European average.

It is necessary for companies in Portugal to look at well-being holistically, understanding how the different dimensions – from mental health to financial stability – complement each other to create healthier and more sustainable teams.
