The Neves-Corvo mine is under concession to SOMINCOR – Sociedade Mineira de Neves-Corvo SA, which since November 2006 is a subsidiary of Lundin Mining.
A SOMINCOR was established on July 24, 1980 after a sulphide deposit containing significant quantities of basic metals, predominantly copper, tin and zinc, was discovered in 1977.
Neves-Corvo is an underground mine where there are five massive sulphide deposits: Neves, Corvo, Graça, Zambujal and Lombador.
In 1988, exploration began as a result of a joint venture between the Portuguese State and the multinational Rio Tinto.
Currently, the Company produces copper, zinc and lead concentrate.
A SOMINCOR owns a facility in the Port of Setúbal located around 150 km north of the mine and 50 km south of Lisbon. A SOMINCOR has shipped its concentrates from these facilities since the beginning of operations in 1988.
